What Is the F-gas Regulation?
The EU’s F-gas regulation is aimed at gradually reducing the use of fluorinated gases (F-gases), which have a significant impact on global warming.
Since its entry into force in 2015, the regulation has been tightened in stages. Violations may be subject to penalties such asfines or suspension of distribution.
-
2015 Entry into Force
- Prohibition on the placing on the market of household refrigerators and freezers containing HFCs with a GWP of 150 or higher
- F-gas quota required to sell products containing F-gases
-
2020 Tightening of Regulations
- Prohibition on the placing on the market of stationary refrigeration equipment using refrigerants with a GWP of 2500 or higher, excluding ultra-low-temperature equipment
- Prohibition on the use of refrigerants with a GWP of 2500 or higher for the servicing and maintenance of existing refrigeration equipment
-
2025 Further Tightening
(After January 1, 2027)- Prohibition on the placing on the market of stationary chillers and air-conditioning equipment of 12 kW or less using refrigerants with a GWP of 150 or higher
- Prohibition on the placing on the market of stationary chillers above 12 kW using refrigerants with a GWP of 750 or higher
