Structure and types of clean booths

This site provides easy-to-understand explanations of know-how for selecting and installing a clean booth, as well as know-how for upgrading a simple booth into a high-stability temperature-precision air conditioner (TCU/ECU) booth and constant temperature and humidity booth using local precision air conditioning units.

Clean booths are used for localized space management, but there are many different types. This article explains the different types of clean booths based on their structure, components, materials, and installation locations.
Please use this as a reference when choosing your booth.

Simple clean booth structure and materials

As shown in the diagram on the right, the simple clean booth has a very simple structure and can be set up in a short time.

Frames such as pillars and beams are generally made of aluminum or steel, but stainless steel is also chosen for processes that require high levels of cleanliness or where corrosion is unacceptable.

vinyl sheet

Flame-resistant, anti-static vinyl sheets are recommended for clean booths. Transparent sheets are the norm, but UV-blocking yellow sheets are used for processes that require UV protection.

Clean Fan filter unit

The clean fan filter unit, also known as the FFU, has a built-in fan motor and HEPA filter, creating positive pressure inside the clean booth.

As the size of the clean booth increases, the interior becomes dark, so lighting must be installed.

Although it is a simple vinyl type, there are various entrance and exit styles such as overlapping, curtains, noren curtains, Velcro, zippers, etc., taking into consideration external disturbances when entering and exiting and the degree of airtightness.

Weight Chain

Since vinyl sheets alone can cause the sheets to flip up, the bottom of the vinyl sheets are sealed and weight chains are placed inside as a counterweight.

Types of clean booths

[Air-conditioned booth (temperature and humidity controlled booth)]

1. Temperature-controlled clean booth

When installing testing equipment, measuring equipment, inspection equipment, etc. in a clean booth, temperature control is required due to the temperature management standards required for the equipment itself and JIS standards.

2. Temperature and humidity controlled clean booth

For processes involving handling objects whose physical properties and characteristics change subtly with changes in temperature and humidity, we offer constant temperature and humidity clean booths with precision air conditioning that are not affected by changes in temperature and humidity in the surrounding area or inside the booth.

3. Dehumidifying and dry room type clean booth

In processes that involve handling highly absorbent raw materials such as powders and pharmaceuticals, it is possible to easily create a dry room-type clean booth using an air conditioner.

[Booths by material and structure]

1. Clean booth made of vinyl sheet

Instead of dividing rooms with walls like in clean rooms, clean spaces can be created using lightweight, easy-to-assemble vinyl sheets. Select the sheet and frame materials according to the purpose. Inexpensive PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is sometimes used, but flame-retardant, non-combustible sheets are recommended.

2. Clean booth made of anti-static sheets

Even with vinyl sheet materials, when performing work that must avoid the intrusion or adhesion of dust or particles, such as electronic components, circuit boards, film lamination, or powder mixing, it is best to select an antistatic sheet that has antistatic agents kneaded into it or coated with it to prevent static buildup, dust, and contamination.

3. Yellow sheet clean booth

Yellow sheets do not transmit UV rays, so they protection the eyes and skin from UV rays and are used in processes that handle UV-sensitive materials such as exposure equipment and photosensitive materials like resist solutions. PVC is often used as the material.
Yellow sheets are effective in preventing direct exposure to laser light, but they are not suitable for blocking laser light or preventing danger, so special light-blocking sheets or plates are required.

4. Aluminum frame and acrylic panel clean booth

In addition to sheets, we also have clean booths that have an assembly structure with acrylic panels fitted into an aluminum frame, which looks good and can be fitted with doors, etc. They are designed to fit the shape of the line and can be installed inline.

5. Clean booth made of heat-insulating panels

By using insulation panels, the finished product can be used as a simple clean room. The materials used for the insulation panels vary depending on the application, and include non-flammable materials, fire-resistant materials, anti-static steel sheets, and antibacterial steel sheets. The core materials of the insulation panels also vary, including rigid polyurethane foam and rock wool.

6. Stainless steel clean booth

Stainless steel clean booths are used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, semiconductor, liquid crystal and electronic component processing, food factories and other processes that require high levels of cleanliness and sterilization, as well as processes that require resistance to fine particle dispersion, water and chemicals.

[Booths by installation location]

1. Offline installation type clean booth

Most common clean booths are installed offline.
We provide a highly clean space for product inspection outside the production line and various testing and analytical equipment.

2. In-line installation type clean booth

This clean booth is customized to fit the layout, size, and shape of the production line to prevent the intrusion and adhesion of foreign matter, dust, and particles during important work processes on the production line. Furthermore, by adding precision air conditioner (TCU/ECU), it becomes possible to control cleanliness and temperature and humidity with high stability in-line.

[Special booth]

1. Clean bench

A clean bench is a clean device that is installed on a desk and has an open front, and was originally used in biological and biochemical research to prevent contamination by dust, fine particles, and microorganisms. Like a clean booth, it is equipped with a clean fan filter unit in the ceiling.

2. Explosion-proof booth

Explosion-proof booths are devices that provide a localized clean environment in places where flammable or explosive gases or liquids are handled. They are constructed in accordance with explosion-proof requirements, and fan motor and lighting equipment are also specification, and do not use aluminum or stainless steel materials.

3. Draft chamber

This device protection workers from harmful substances and is used in chemical experiments, etc., by maintaining negative pressure in the work space and preventing the leakage of harmful substances.
