Mist collector technical information 1-1. Generation and effect of oil mist
1-1. Generation and effect of oil mist
This section explains the causes of oil mist and its impact on the work site.
(1) About oil mist
Oil mist refers to particulate oil matter floating in the air.
For example, oil mist is generated when lubricating oil used in industrial machinery scatters due to the high speed operation of the machine, or when compressed air is contaminated by lubricating oil during production. The most frequent source of oil mist in a factory is caused by the scattering of cutting oil used in cutting machines, turning machines and other machines.
In recent years, we have helped customers to adopt the ISO14000 Series, and the pace of making working environment improvements has picked up in the workplace.
While there are movements to reduce the amount of cutting oil used in dry cutting and near-dry cutting, it is necessary to increase our price competitiveness by further optimization in the face of international price competition.
As a result, it is inevitable that the processing load will increase due to the high speed operation, rotation and feeding of work machines, resulting in an increase in the number of parts that rely on cutting oil. Oil mist occurs easily under these operating conditions.
The scattering of oil mist may result in the following effects.
(1) Heath hazards of field operators and eye disorders caused by scattered oil getting into the eyes
・Eye disorders caused by scattered oil getting into the eyes
・Skin disorders caused by oil adhering to the clothes or skin
・Disorders of the nose, throat, bronchial tube etc., headaches and discomfort caused by inhaling oil mist
(2) Haze inside the plant, adhesion to the ceiling
・Poor field of view due to the hazy environment inside the plant
・Oil droplets dripping from the ceiling surface
・Risk of fire or explosion due to oil smoke atmosphere
(3) Contamination of floor and wall surfaces
・Falling, slipping and other work accidents due to slippery floor stained with oil
・Contamination of products, equipment in factories, etc.
(4) Infiltration into machines and control panels
・Short circuiting caused by adhesion to electronic devices
・Corrosion of metallic and resin parts
(5) Inflow into air conditioning equipment
・Decrease in air conditioning effect due to filter clogging, increase in maintenance man-hours
・Increase in the air conditioning cost due to increased ventilation frequency
