1-1.Oil oil mist generation and its effects
This explains the causes of oil mist and its impact on the workplace.
(1) What is oil mist?
oil mist is particulate oil suspended in the air.
For example, it is generated when lubricating oil used in industrial machinery is scattered due to high-speed operation of the machinery or when lubricating oil is mixed in when making compressed air. Of these, the most common source in factories is oil mist caused by the splattering of cutting oil used in cutting and turning machines.
In recent years, with the adoption of the ISO 14000 series and other factors, there has been a growing momentum to improve the work environment on-site.
There is a growing trend to reduce the amount of cutting fluid used through dry cutting and near-dry cutting, but in the face of international price competition, it is necessary to further improve efficiency to increase price competitiveness.
As a result, the machining load increases due to high speed operation, high rotation speed, and high feed rate of the machine, and the machine inevitably becomes more dependent on cutting oil. Under these operating conditions, oil mist is more likely to be generated.
The following effects may be caused by the dispersion of oil mist.
1) Health hazards to workers on-site: Eye problems caused by splashed oil getting into the eyes
- Eye diseases caused by splashed oil getting into the eyes
- Skin disorders caused by oil getting on clothes or skin
-Diseases of the nose, throat, bronchi, etc. caused by inhaling oil mist-Headaches and discomfort
②Mist inside the factory, adhesion to the ceiling
- Poor visibility due to haze in the factory atmosphere
- Oil dripping from the ceiling
・Risk of fire or explosion due to oily smoke
3) Contamination of floors and walls
- Work-related accidents such as tripping and falling due to slipping caused by oil on the floor
- Contamination of products, factory equipment, etc.
4) Intrusion into machines and panel
・Short circuits caused by adhesion to electronic devices
- Corrosion of metal and plastic parts
⑤ Inflow into air conditioning equipment
・Clogged filters reduce air conditioning effectiveness and increase maintenance man-hours
- Increased ventilation frequency leads to increased air conditioning costs
